HRH The Duke of York Young Championship Trophy 2012

Royal Troon is delighted that HRH Duke of York will be hosting this prestigious event at our Club.

The Duke of York Young Championship's Trophy is a 54-hole stroke play medal (scratch) and is a mixed invitational tournament with boys and girls competing for the same trophy.

Field: Maximum 60 Junior Champions from approximately 35 countries

Eligibility: Current Under 18 Boy and Girl National Champions

Current winners of other major events as approved by the Tournament Advisory Board

Past Champions (if U18 on 1.1.12)

Special invitee of the Tournament Advisory Board

Maximum handicap 2.0 (2009 average = +1)

Born 1994 or later

Past Players: Rory McIlroy (runner-up 2004); Sam Hutsby (winner 2006); Matteo Manessero (2007);

Anna Nordqvist (leading girl 2004/5); Stiggy Hodgson (winner 2008), Melissa Reid;Oliver Fisher (winner 2005) & Pablo Martin (runner-up 2003)

General: The tournament aims to:

Organised, in many ways, like a professional tournament in order to give the potential stars of the future a chance to experience what life as a golf professional might involve; hence the challenging course, inclusion of sponsors, official functions, an educational talk and tour

Supported by the R & A and the affiliated golfing bodies, with the results counting towards the World Amateur Golf Rankings

The tournament is organised by JSA Limited and funded by The Duke of York Sports Foundation which also awards academic and golf scholarships to under 18 boys and girls.
