Practice Day 1

The first day saw most of the players arrive at Royal Troon.

The golf course is in spectacular condition, albeit slightly softer underfoot than usual at this time of year but in perfect playing order. Many of the players enjoyed their first experience of Royal Troon, playing in 10 mph wind from the west which increased gently throughout the day.

Some of the players had been here for the last week or so and during this time, the best preparations I had seen were from the following players:

Justin Rose put in a lot of putting practice. He has now played several times, very relaxed and enjoying the course.

Adam Scott has played every day, wanting to understand the course well enough to know which clubs to hit off each tee in all wind directions. It was his first time playing at Royal Troon and first impressions of the course were great!

Jason Day, the World No 1 has played the course twice and his game looks in great shape - one to watch for sure.

Jordan Speith has been hitting lots of balls and is looking very focussed!

Rory McIlroy is loving the course, having now played it twice.

Practice Day 2

A pleasant day for golf with temperatures of 15 degrees accompanied by a light wind from the west.

All of the players have now registered at Royal Troon.

Highlights from the second practice day include:

Dustin Johnston making two 2’s on the Par 4 3rd Hole "Gyaws".

Jason Day carrying his driver 330 yards on the range.

John Solheim, CEO and owner of Ping, spent 90 minutes in the Professional Shop talking about the company and its family values.

Bubba Watson also popped in and spent around 30 minutes in the shop.
