Kieron G Stevenson BSc (Hons) (Head Professional)

Kieron was appointed Professional to the Club at the start of 2008.

A BSc (Hons) graduate in Sports Science from Nottingham Trent University, Kieron qualified as a Professional at Turnberry following two spells at Oakmont Country Club in the USA. Further positions at Gleneagles and Old Thorns Golf Club led to five years at Murrayfield Golf Club in Edinburgh.

An avid teacher, retailer, and player, Kieron is particularly enthusiastic about the junior side of golf and the encouragement of new juniors into the game. Nothing shows this more than the hugely successful initiative The Royal Troon School of Golf, for boys and girls aged 5-11, where children begin their golfing journey under the guidance and knowledge of the Professional Team at Royal Troon. Kieron and his team have dedicated over 400 voluntary hours to this initiative which has now introduced golf to over 4000 local school children via taster sessions, school coaching, club sessions, summer camps and the now annual School of Golf festival.

Kieron explains, “Attracting young kids into golf is absolutely essential as we as PGA golf professionals try and compete with other sports and activities. The idea was to make golf fun, easy to understand and easy to learn. It’s a holistic approach to golf and includes health, wellbeing, education and life skills at its core, the kids and school teachers love it”.

Kieron is also a specialist tutor of the short game, and his unique scientific approach has helped many golfers successfully improve and develop their putting, chipping, pitching and bunker play.

Amongst his career highlights were a hole-in-one at the Postage Stamp in 2008 (his 7th in total) and the opportunity to play in the 145th Open in 2016 as the marker with Haydn Porteous, and with Colin Montgomerie on the final day.
