West Kilbride’s Finlay Watt and City of Newcastle’s Jinhan Wang captured the top prizes at this year’s Byrne Howard Junior Open, played over the Portland Course on Sunday 26 July.

Watt claimed the Boys’ trophy with an excellent round of 70, finishing four shots clear of Glasgow’s Archie Macmillan, who returned a 74. In the Girls’ competition, Wang successfully defended the title she won twelve months ago, signing for 78 to retain the trophy, with Orla Moran of Irvine finishing runner-up.

There were two handicap prizes for the boys. In the 12–14 age group, George Maguire of Drumpellier won with a net score of 64, one shot ahead of Turnberry’s Javier Dessaix on 65. Jack McGuire of Haggs Castle also shot 64 to win the 15–17 age group, finishing three clear of Robbie McFadzean on 67.

Royal Troon’s Mya Wilson, runner-up in the Girls’ scratch competition last year, rounded off the prize list by winning the Girls’ handicap with a net 77.
